Trenton, n.J., man indicted for robbing the same bank twice, carjacking a car, and shooting two people

TRENTON, N.J. – A Trenton, N.J., man was indicted by a federal grand jury today for robbing a bank, carjacking a vehicle nine months later and then robbing the same bank later that day, shooting two people in the course of that conduct, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Jeffrey Garrett, 34, is charged in a six-count Indictment with armed robbery of the Chase Bank, in Hamilton, N.J., on Nov. 10, 2010; brandishing a firearm in connection with the robbery; carjacking on Aug. 23, 2011; discharging of a firearm in connection with the carjacking; bank robbery later that day; and discharging of a firearm in connection with the second bank robbery. Garrett had previously been arrested and charged by Complaint with the Nov. 10, 2012, robbery and remains in federal custody.
If convicted, Garrett faces 25 years each for the two bank robberies and the carjacking, and mandatory consecutive sentences of seven years to 25 years for the brandishing and discharging charges, and a $250,000 fine.
U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael B. Ward; officers of the Hamilton Township Police Department, under the direction of Police Chief James W. Collins; officers of the Trenton Police Department, under the direction of Acting Police Director David Armitage; and the U.S. Marshals Service, with the investigation leading to today’s Indictment.
An arraignment in Trenton federal court will be scheduled.
